ೃ࿔ for centuries, men had been the visible protagonists in the sewing trades. Tailors had monopolized the guilds, maintaining exclusive prestige and control over production but beginning in the 18th century, women began gaining ground in several clothing-related activities 🪔
at the beginning of the 19th century, with the increasing demand for “fashionable clothing” among the wealthy bourgeois class, freelance women seamstresses began to emerge and took on the previously prohibited role.
